Six Burnaby biathletes brought home medals from the first cadet competition this season at the Whistler Olympic Park last Saturday.
Louisa Tsang won a gold medal and Rhythm Tang took the silver in the 17-to-18 youth female category at the Pacific Region Lower Mainland Zone 4 biathlon championships.
More than 110 cadet biathletes from Mission to Whistler freestyle skied six kilometres and displayed small bore markmanship, shooting 10 rounds at a 50 metre distance.
Tsang shot 100 percent, hitting all targets at the 50m distance, becoming the first-ever cadet to finish with a perfect record in shooting in a cadet biathlon competition at the Olympic park since it opened in 2008.
Yimi Huang and Jessie Yuet won a silver and bronze medal, respectively,in the 12-to-14 junior female category.
Tsang, Tang and Huang were all selected to compete at the provincial competition to be held at Mount Washington on Feb 1.
Other Burnaby medallists included Jasper Zhu, who won the gold in the junior male category.
Amar Parikh was the the runner up in the youth male category.
All of the biathletes hail from the North Burnaby 759 Air Cadet Squadron except Tsang, who is with the New Westminster 102 Sea Cadet Corps.
The sport of winter Biathlon is an Olympic sport and involves freestyle skiing and small-bore marksmanship.
The cadet biathlon competition is held annually at the Whistler Olympic Park in January each year. The Pacific Region Cadet Support Unit in Victoria and the North Burnaby 759 Air Cadet Squadron are big supporters of biathlon.
