Three Burnaby gymnasts to nationals

Briannah Tsang won her specialty and place third all-around in the senior women's high performance artistic gymnastics competition at the recent B.C championships.

Tsang, who trains with Flicka Gymnatics, easily won the individual vault, posting a competition-high score of 14.250. The Burnaby North Secondary student also placed second on floor exercises, third on the balance beam and fourth on uneven bars at the provincial competition held in Richmond.

Tsang garnered a total of 51.900 points. Flicka teammates Taylor Ricci and Laura-Ann Chong placed first and second, respectively, in the high-performance all-around.

Two other Burnaby gymnasts both placed in the top five in the women's open division at the B.C. championships.

Tamara Kuno of Flicka placed third with a 49.750 all-around score. Kuno finished third on both the beam and bars. She was third on the vault and tied for seventh on floor.

Grade 9 Alpha Secondary student Sofia Savkovic finished in a tie for fifth place with a 49.250 total.

Savkovic, who trains in Surrey, was runner-up in the individual uneven bars. She also placed fifth on vault, seven on beam and ninth on floor.

Taylor Oakley of Flicka won the event with a 51.300 total.

The Canadian championships will be held in Regina from May 21 to 26.

The Western Canadian championships will also be held next month in Langley May 3 to 5.
