Distance runner Ryan Brockerville ran the final race of his Simon Fraser University track career into the record book.
The Clan senior won the men's 2,000 metre steeplechase in conference record time of 8:47.26 at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference track and field championships in Monmouth, Oregon on Saturday.
Brockerville was one of three SFU athletes to garner conference titles at the meet, including field athlete Jade Richardson and middle distance runner Lindsey Butterworth.
Brockerville, the 2011 NAIA national steeplechase champion, ran a strong 58-second final lap to dethrone the two-time defending champion Micah Chelimo of Alaska Anchorage in the conference final.
Richardson also eked out victory in the women's discus, matching Montana State Billings' Leeza Henry after both competitors threw 42.53m. The winner was decided by each athlete's second-best toss. Richard's 40.11m throw topped Henry's second-best distance.
Butterworth competed in the 1,500m despite entering the meet ranked first at 800m.
Butterworth made the best of it, upsetting the No. 1-ranked Susan Tanui of Alaska Anchorage in the metric-mile final in a time of 4:28.77.
Middle-distance teammates Sarah Sawatzky and Michael Kane placed second and third, respectively, in the 800m final. Sawatzky posted a time of 2:12.50, while Kane finished just one second behind.
Butterworth, Sawatzky, Kane and Abbey Vogt of Burnaby also teamed up for the women's 4x400m relay, finishing in third place with a time of 3:53.43.
Adam Reid also posted a third-place time in the men's 800m, finishing on the podium in a time of 1:52.73.
Mercedes Rhode placed fourth in the women's long jump for SFU following a leap of 5.53m.
