Thrower leads Burnaby at Games

Gabriella Moro was a big winner for Burnaby at the West Kootenay's B.C. Senior Games last week. Moro, the current B.C. record holder in the women's 60-to-64 discus, won her specialty with a toss of 23.

Gabriella Moro was a big winner for Burnaby at the West Kootenay's B.C. Senior Games last week.

Moro, the current B.C. record holder in the women's 60-to-64 discus, won her specialty with a toss of 23.61 metres, while also earning a second gold medal in the shot put at the Games.

Moro also picked up a pair of silver medals in the women's javelin and hammer throw.

Brenda Hobbs, who competed in five women's 60-to-64 events, earned a third-place medal in the 5,000-metre power walk. Hobbs was also fourth in both the javelin and 10kilometre road walk.

Edmonds senior Norm Lesage, 81, took gold in the men's 100 and 400m sprints.

Marilyn Aldworth won the 55-to-59 women's singles in tennis. She also teamed with Chris Morrey-Jones of Burnaby for a silver in the mixed doubles. Morrey-Jones was a bronze medalist in the 60-to-64 men's singles.

Barbara Davies placed first in the 60-to-64 compet-itive women's cycling time trial. Herman Bosman was a runner-up in the men's novice time trial.

Letty Gimenes won three medals in 65-to-69 competitive women's badminton.

Gimenes was second in the women's singles. She also teamed up with Pat Davison of Vancouver for the doubles gold and Bob Herar of Burnaby in the mixed final. Herar and North Vancouver's Michael Barnard were the gold medallists in the men's doubles.

Burnaby's Randy Gene placed third in the com-petitive men's 60-to-64 singles in badminton. He also picked up gold with Wing Lau of Vancouver in doubles.

Elspeth Creith won a pair of third-place medals in mixed and women's doubles play, with Lau and Ging Quan of Burnaby, respectively.

Phil Horton of Burnaby shared a pair of gold medals in the recreational 75to79 doubles.

Horton teamed with Kelowna's Norma Kopp in the mixed doubles and Rolly Waechter of North Vancouver in the men's doubles.
