The Fraser Valley Phantom fell to Pacific rivals the Edmonton Thunder in their opening game Sunday night at the fifth annual Esso Cup National Female Midget Championships, underway in Burnaby.
The Phantom struggled to compete with the Thunder who came on strong, scoring their first goal within the first minute of play.
By the second period, the Thunder were leading the host team 3-1, but Chelsea Wilson managed to sneak one by the Edmonton defencemen for her second goal of the game and closed the gap 3-2.
Unfortunately, the Phantom weren't able to keep the momentum going and were defeated 4-2 by the Edmonton Thunder, who outscored the hosts 26-14.
Fans still have two chances to check out the Phantoms - 2012 Esso Cup champions - in this year's tournament.
Tonight's (Wednesday) game against Atlantic representatives Halifax's Metro Boston Pizza is at 7: 30 p.m. and Thursday, the Phantoms face the North Bay Ice Boltz in the final preliminary game, also at 7: 30 p.m.
All games are played at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre and tickets are available at the door.
