Simon Fraser University middle distance runner Helen Crofts was named the West region female track athlete of the year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Clan senior is currently the Division II leader at 800 metres heading into this weekend's NCAA Div. II outdoor championships.
Crofts recorded a time of 2: 04.53 in the metric half mile to lead all competitors by more than three seconds.
Her time is also the sixth-ranked time in the event in Div. II history.
In addition, Crofts is ranked seventh in the 1500m with a time of 4: 26.85 and 10th in the 400m with a 54.46 clocking.
Crofts recently won the Great Northwest conference championship in both events, and is also a member of the Clan's eighth-seeded 4Ã400m relay team.
The Clan are in Pueblo, Colorado this week for the NCAA Div. II outdoor track and field championships, which began Wednesday.
Last Friday, Crofts was one of six SFU athletes named to the U.S. coaches association all-region team.
Crofts earned the recognition for top five finishes in four separate events this season.
She was joined by running mates Lindsey Butterworth and Sarah Sawatzky.
Chantel Desch and Michaela Kane earned all-region nods as members of the Clan 4x400m relay team, while field athlete Jade Richardson was also named to the team after a Great Northwest title in the women's discus.
