Two on podium at Oregon open

Five members of the Simon Fraser University men's wrestling team competed in the Southern Oregon Pete BelCastro Open this past weekend with two wrestlers posting top-three finishes and one competitor finishing fifth in his weight class.

Five members of the Simon Fraser University men's wrestling team competed in the Southern Oregon Pete BelCastro Open this past weekend with two wrestlers posting top-three finishes and one competitor finishing fifth in his weight class.

Clete Hanson had a strong meet in Ashland, Oregon. The SFU senior defeated Josh Cutts of Lassen Community College before being defeated by Austin Vanderford of Southern Oregon University in the 184-pound final. Hanson's efforts earned him a second-place finish.

Skylor Davis scored a 10-1 victory in his final match of the tournament to claim the third spot in the overall standings and a third-place finish in the 125-lbs. weight class.

Brock Lamb got off to a tough start, losing his opening match to his counterpart from North Idaho College in the 165 lbs. division.

Lamb rebounded though with solid matches the rest of the way through to claim fifth place. Roy Millar also competed at 165 lbs for SFU along.

Gurjot Kooner also grappled for SFU at the meet in the 285 lbs. weight class.

The SFU men's wrestling team will be back in action today (Friday) when they travel to Oregon State University.
