Burnaby swimmer Sherry Liu won four gold medals and a single silver at the Western Canada Summer Games in Kamloops in August.
The 17-year-old won gold in the 400-, 800-and 5,000-metre indoor freestyle races. She also shared first place on B.C.'s 4x200m relay team.
Liu's second-place medal came in the open women's 1,500 m free.
"This was a great end to a great season," said Liu.
THIRD OUT WEST
The Burnaby Winter Club won a third Western Canada bantam hockey championship, upsetting the hometown Winnipeg Hawks 3-2 in overtime in Winnipeg in April.
Second-year forward Victor Dombrovskiy scored the game-winner with his first goal of the Western championships six minutes into OT.
Matthew Barzal, Dombrovskiy and goalie Nicholas McBride were named first team all-stars.
"I knew when I picked this team, I thought this team was pretty special," said BWC head coach John Batchelor. "They had the character, they had the attitude, and they didn't disappoint."
