Matteo Vincelli got his first start at the under-18 Baseball World Cup in Osaka, Japan last week.
The Burnaby righthander went five and one-third innings, giving up five runs on six hits in a 9-5 loss to eventual champions the United States in the championship super round on Saturday.
Vincelli saw action on the mound in three games for the junior national team, including two group matchups in relief – an 11-1 loss to Cuba and an opening 6-2 win over Chinese Taipei.
The 18-year-old North Shore Twins chucker gave up six runs off 10 hits, while striking out five during his time on the mound for Canada at the World Cup.
The U.S. handed host Japan its first loss of the World Cup in the championship final, winning 2-1 on a two-run third inning on Sunday.
South Korea beat Australia 8-5 for the bronze medal with a four-run eighth.
