The Simon Fraser University men's soccer team signed Spencer DeBoice to a national letter of intent on Monday. DeBoice comes to the Clan from the Vancouver Whitecaps residency program.

"Spencer is a very creative left-footed player who can play anywhere on the left side of the pitch," said SFU head coach Alan Koch. "He will come in and compete for playing time immediately. He has a professional mentality and I am excited that he has chosen to continue his development with our team."

Prior to joining the Whitecaps, DeBoice played with hometown Surrey Guildford United.

"I am very excited to pursue my soccer career at SFU as I work to progress further in the game," said DeBoice. "The Clan have always had a first-class team and I am ecstatic to begin competing in the NCAA."

In addition to his play with the Whitecaps and Surrey Guildford United, DeBoice also trained at Total Soccer Systems in Richmond and toured the Netherlands with TSS in 2006.

He also represented British Columbia as part of Team B.C. from 2006 through 2010, and from 2007 to 2010 trained at the Canadian Soccer Association's National Training Centre.

DeBoice and the rest of the Clan's recruiting class will join the returning players atop Burnaby Mountain for training camp in August.
