Three Burnaby Central wrestlers were big winners at the Canadian national juvenile wrestling championships.
Brothers Parmvir and Amar Dhesi, and Saheel Khan all won a pair of national titles fighting for Khalsa club, including their respective freestyle and Greco-Roman weight classes at the nationals in Fredericton, N.B. on April 14.
Parm and Amar both won a third national title. It was the second such title for Khan.
"That's pretty impressive," said high school coach Gianni Buono.
Parm blanked all three opponents to win the 115kilogram title, including a pin over Erik Richard in the opening bout. Parm won a 13-0 technical decision over Trevor Buick of Flin Flon in the gold-medal final.
Younger brother Amar outpointed the field without having a point scored against him to win the 130-kg division, including a 10-0 victory over Aron Mann of GuruGobind in the championship final.
Khan had a more dif-ficult road to the 100-kg final, winning his three matches by closer scores. Khan edged John Oliver student Kyle Nguyen 2-1 in the title match.
All three Burnaby wrestlers also won Greco-Roman titles, which is essentially upper bodyonly wrestling.
"Of all the kids we've had, they are pretty special," said Buono. "The Dhesi kids are certainly among the best that have ever come out of Central. Their dedication is second to none. The strength they have can't be achieved without working at it."
