The Burnaby Central Wildcats went into the senior girls AAA Lower Mainlands looking for a bounce.
The scrappy No. 3 team from the Burnaby-New West league got it in the opener, but took a hit Monday night.
In their second Lower Mainland test, the Wildcats were trumped 77-27 by league rival New Westminster, putting Central on a must-win track yesterday (past NOW deadline) against Kitsilano.
Earlier, Burnaby Central disposed of Killarney 70-64 on the weekend to kick off the 12-team tournament.
Powered by a 38-point effort from Jennifer Mascardo and 18 from Karis Ducharme, the Wildcats shook off an early deficit to grab a nine-point advantage at the half. But Killarney closed the gap to four points in the fourth, thanks to a 36-point game from Rebecca Portillo.
“I give (Killarney) credit. They won the energy war... But a win’s a win. We finished the game strong,” ‘Cats coach Chris Ducharme said.
In other first round action, Burnaby Mountain bested Kits 38-29.
