Wings qualify in numbers for B.C.s

Eight members of the Wings Gymnastics Society qualified for the upcoming provincial championships.

Raquel Slotten led a Wings sweep in the Level 2 open category, winning her second straight all-around tournament title, placing first overall at the Delta Spring Fever event last weekend.

Slotten won the individual uneven bars, balance beam and tied for first in the floor exercises, while placing third in the vault to win the all-around.

Emma Crooks placed second tying Slotten on floor, while finishing second in the vault and third on bars and beam.

Nikki Nummela was next in third place, with a first place on the vault, second on bars, third on floor and fourth on beam.

Raha Dang, who finished in a three-way tie for first on floor with her Wings' teammates, was fourth in the all-around. Dang placed third on bars, fourth on vault and fifth on beam.

Savana Fogh, with a best second-place on floor, was fifth in the all-around. Fogh also placed second on beam, fourth on bars and fifth on the vault.

All five gymnasts from the Burnaby-based club qualified for the B.C. championships.

Alora Jones also qualified for Wings in Level 3 after finishing runner-up in the all-around. Jones also finished second in vault, third on beam and fourth on bars.

Teammate Emily Lago was sixth all-around, placing third on both vault and bars, fifth on floor and sixth on beam.

In the Level 2 novice, Megan Heron won both the vault and floor to finish fourth in the all-around. Heron also placed third on bars and fourth on beam.

Wings also had a strong showing at Level 1, which does not participate at the provincial level.

Kyara Liu was first on the vault and won the allaround, while also placing second on bars and floor and fifth on the beam.

Kelsey Longeau finished behind Liu in second place, winning the bars and placing second on vault. Longeau was also third on floor and fourth on beam.

Melissa Froese placed fifth, with a best secondplace finish on beam.

The provincials will be held in North Vancouver in April.
