A 90-year-old driver survived a rollover crash in Burnaby with only minor injuries Friday morning.

Witnesses told police they saw a Honda Fit coming down Cariboo Hill hit a curb and leave the roadway.

The vehicle hit a light standard and a tree before flipping onto its roof, according to police.

Emergency crews were called just after 10:30 a.m., according to assistant fire Chief Greg Young.

He said firefighters had to remove the car’s trunk and rear seat to access the driver.

The 90-year-old man was taken to hospital with minor injuries, according to Burnaby RCMP.

Police say a medical incident may have caused the crash.

Cariboo Road was closed to northbound traffic well into the afternoon, leading to delays on several arteries on the Burnaby-New Westminster border.
