A suspect in a Burnaby break-in was nabbed on a bait bike minutes after it was set out near a Richmond mall this week.

The bike was placed near the Richmond Centre Mall at 6551 No. 3 Rd. on Monday, according to Richmond RCMP.

A mere seven minutes after police had baited their proverbial hook, a thief bit, and officers discovered the bike had been moved.

They intercepted it minutes later, at about 8:30 p.m., near the intersection of Lansdowne Road and Arcadia Road, where they arrested the 20-year-old rider without incident, according to police.

A search revealed the man was in possession of a number of tools contrary to the conditions of a release order made after a previous arrest for a break-and-enter in Burnaby in December 2019, police said.

He was also found to be wanted on two outstanding warrants originating from Burnaby and Surrey.

The suspect, 20-year-old Warren Mark Spence of no fixed address, now faces charges of theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.
