Snow and ice have forced the City of Burnaby to close all local sports fields.

The city issued a statement on its website today (Monday) saying that all fields remain closed.

These includes fields in local parks and at public schools.

“In deciding whether to CLOSE a field, Parks staff will take into account the safety and playability of the field, as well as any potential damage it could suffer due to play in poor conditions,” said a statement on the City of Burnaby website.

The city also says that the “highest priority routes” have been cleared of snow from Sunday’s snowfall, and that crews “continue to plow remaining priority streets Monday in advance of the next snow event and will remain deployed until conditions improve.”

The city says that crews are clearing laneways and collection routes in the northwest section in advance of garbage and recycling pickup on Monday and Tuesday.

The city is urging people snow from the top of garbage and green bins, plus a minimum of three feet on all sides. You must also keep bins off of the top of snow banks.

The city is also warning that pickup might be later than normal due to the snow.
