If you’ve been raring to go golfing, May 1 will be your day in Burnaby.
The Riverway Golf Course, Burnaby Mountain Golf Course, Kensington and Central Park Pitch and Putts will all be re-opening that day – on a Friday, no less.
That being said, the city will be limiting availability of the courses to ensure physical distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a statement on the Golf Burnaby website.
“Our decision to re-open our golf facilities was made after consultation and discussions with both health and industry associations,” reads the statement. “These groups have endorsed the sport as a safe outdoor recreation activity as long as physical distancing and new comprehensive safety measures (endorsed by the B.C. Ministry of Health) are achieved.”
Golf Burnaby noted the courses can only remain open if physical distancing is maintained on site, adding staff will ask people who don’t cooperate to leave.
Staff have been newly re-trained to comply with the new set of rules, including handling and “extreme sanitization” of equipment and “touch points,” as well as new processes for pacing on the golf courses.
Because physical distancing means less time to fit in bookings, Golf Burnaby is also enacting new rules, including suspending booking rights of no-shows. A full set of the new rules and changes can be found at https://www.golfburnaby.ca/book-tee-time.
