Burnaby RCMP officers are cracking done on bad drivers.

Burnaby RCMP officers removed two dangerous drivers off local roads while they were setting up for an entirely different enforcement project.

Officers were setting up in Burnaby as part of Railway Safety Week at 4 a.m. on Thursday morning when two impaired drivers were stopped.

“Traffic members took two impaired drivers off the road,” say the RCMP. “The first was found to be impaired by alcohol, the second by drugs. Both vehicles were impounded. The driver impaired by drugs stated he was on his way to work. The message is simple - Do not drive impaired. Plan for a safe ride home, take a taxi, take transit.”

RCMP supplied ICBC stats that said 56 per cent of impaired driving happens between Friday and Sunday, and 38 per cent of impaired driving happens between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m.

“The stats from @ICBCspeak for themselves, impaired driving is a leading cause of car crash fatalities in B.C.”
