A longtime Lower Mainland Mountie is the Burnaby RCMP detachment’s new second-in-command.

Supt. Graham de la Gorgendiere has served his entire career in the Lower Mainland, working in Mission, the South West District Major Crimes Unit, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) and Chilliwack, according to an RCMP press release.

He has been hired as the detachment’s new Operations Officer, taking the place of Supt. Chuck McDonald, who has moved on to a post at E Division headquarters in Surrey, the main office for the RCMP in B.C.

De la Gorgendiere just completed two years at E Division with the Investigative Standards and Practices and Legal Application Support Team.

He is the current Chair of the E Division Major Case Management Team and is also a member of the sub committee for disclosure for police and Crown counsel. He is also an accredited Team Commander and served as Bronze Commander in the North District during the B.C. Wildfires in 2017.

Burnaby’s new Operations Officer is a decorated Mountie, having received three meritorious service awards from the province at Police Honours Night in 2013, 2015 and 2018, as well as Commanding Officer Commendations on two occasions.

“I am pleased to welcome Supt. de la Gorgendiere to Burnaby. His strong investigative background and familiarity with the Lower Mainland will complement the senior management team at the detachment and enhance service delivery to our community” Chief Supt. Deanne Burleigh said in the release.

When he’s not at the detachment, de la Gorgendiere can be found spending time with his family, running with his dogs and watching hockey, according to the press release.
