A Burnaby resident living in a seniors building has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

A resident of the Swedish Assisted Living Residence at Halifax Street and Duthie Avenue has been diagnosed with COVID-19. The resident is in self-isolation in their home in independent living.

“A Fraser Health SWAT team is at each site and communication with residents and families is underway,” said a Fraser Health statement.

The Swedish Assisted Living Residence, owned by the Swedish Canadian Rest Home Association, is located in Burnaby and includes both assisted living and independent living services. The resident lives in independent living.

“Enhanced control measures have been put in place at the Swedish Assisted Living Residence,” said the statement. “Fraser Health is working with the staff at both sites to identify anyone who may have been exposed and taking steps to protect the health of all staff, residents and families.”

To prevent transmission of COVID-19, Fraser Health is ensuring staff currently working at the Swedish Assisted Living Residence will not be working at any other facility.

Fraser Health says it has implemented the following:

  • Staffing levels will be maintained to provide resident care.
  • Visitors have been limited to only essential visitors.
  • Staff and residents movement in the facility has been restricted.
  • Cleaning and infection control measures have been enhanced.
  • Residents, families and staff are being notified.
  • Twice a day screening of all staff and residents.
