This year marks 550 years since the birth of the founder of Sikhism.

To commemorate the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the Sikh community is planting trees in cities/villages around the world - with the goal of planting 1,000,000 trees.

In Burnaby, 550 trees are set to be planted at Second Narrows Park (also known as Montrose Park), at the north end of Gilmore at Edinburgh Street in North Burnaby on Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

β€œThe planting of trees is a small gesture towards helping our mother Earth, and just as a tree does not discriminate on who enjoys its shade, this effort is also a reminder to ourselves to cultivate our best self to see and be with all without hate or prejudice as taught by Guru Nanak Dev Ji,” said a statement by the organizers.
