City closes multiple Burnaby roads due to flooding today

The City of Burnaby has announced multiple road and trail closures due to heavy rainfall and melting snow. Burnaby tweeted at around 10:15 a.m. several roads are flooded out as a rainfall warning is issued by Environment Canada.

The City of Burnaby has announced multiple road and trail closures due to heavy rainfall and melting snow.

Burnaby tweeted at around 10:15 a.m. several roads are flooded out as a rainfall warning is issued by Environment Canada.

The following roads are now closed: Still Creek Drive, Still Creek Avenue, Westminster Avenue and Regent Street – between Eastbrook Parkway and Douglas Road.

Also, the Central Valley Greenway has been closed in the same area due to heavy flooding.

Environment Canada made the announcement early in the morning on Thursday, Jan. 23, noting that rain, at times heavy, is expected. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue through the morning, which may cause localized flooding.

Rainfall warning in effect for:

  • Metro Vancouver - central including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster
  • Metro Vancouver - North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
  • Metro Vancouver - northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge

Burnaby drivers are advised to reduce their speed on local roads.
