Flowers and condolences are piling up at the doorstep of Paul's Restaurant on Hastings Street in Burnaby, after the owners' daughter was found deceased in a water tank atop of a hotel in Los Angeles last week.

"I think it's the worst nightmare of any parent. I have four daughters myself," said Vincent Ma, owner of X-Site Grill and Bistro, just next door to Paul's Restaurant. "I wish them well, because it's tough."

Paul's Restaurant has a closed sign on the door, and Ma said he hasn't seen the family in a while. The 21-yearold daughter, Elisa Lam, was reported missing by her parents, after she went on a trip to California in late January. Lam was staying at a hotel in Los Angeles, and a worker investigating complaints of low water pressure found Lam's body in one of the hotel's rooftop water tanks.

Los Angeles police are investigating, but the cause of death is still a mystery. It's not clear if she was killed or the victim of an accident. Coroner's officials are awaiting toxicology tests before making a final determination.
