Parent groups at Burnaby schools have $456,840 in government gambling revenue to put towards extras for students, like field trips, sports, music and more this year.

Parent organizations at 49 local elementary and secondary schools got the annual grants, which were set at $20 per student this year.

The lion’s share of the funds – $417,980 – went to public school parent advisory councils.

Local private school parent groups got a total $38,860.

The district parent advisory council got $2,500.

Across the province, the government handed out a total $11 million in gaming grants to about 1,300 PACs and DPACs this year.

Every year, commercial gambling generates revenue the provincial government spends on health care and education, arts and culture groups, sports, the environment, public safety, social services and parent advisory councils.
