The Burnaby school district is one step closer to creating 345 new elementary school seats at two schools.

The school board approved a 2018/19 capital plan last June that included multimillion-dollar additions to Cameron and Brentwood Park elementary schools.

The plan calls for a $4.18-million addition at Cameron that will add 20 kindergarten seats and 125 other elementary spaces; and a $4.1-million addition at Brentwood Park that will create 200 new seats.

The board passed bylaws for the projects at a meeting this month.

The ministry has now asked the district to complete the Cameron project definition report by Sept. 20 and the Brentwood Park report by Oct. 31.

“Next steps are to complete the project definition reports for the two projects, finalize with the ministry, then funding approval can be sought,” district secretary-treasurer Russell Horswill told the NOW in an email.
