Editor:

I just received my 2020 tax notice from the City of Burnaby.

With so many organizations and governments taking steps to help people affected by COVID-19, isn’t it refreshing to see that the good old city of Burnaby wants their pound of flesh in full and on time?

No concessions from the City of Burnaby.

They couldn’t possibly use any of the hundreds of millions of dollars that they have stashed in their rainy day fund to alleviate or at least defer some portion of the taxes due.

Just warms the cockles of my heart, it does.

Gordon Foy, Burnaby

Editor’s note: It should be mentioned that the property tax hike, originally set at 3.5%, was halved by council to 1.75%. In actual dollars, the original hike was estimated at $63 for the average residential property, but the reduced rate would add up to just over $30.
