Mary Clark won $500,000 in the July 28 Lotto Max draw, and says she'll spend her winnings "wisely."

A lawn bowling champion used to winning gold said she was “flummoxed” when she realized she had won a Lotto Max draw.

Mary Clark – who has won gold in lawn bowling at the 1998 BC Summer Games and the 2001 55+ BC Games – secured the third of 13 Maxmillions prizes during the July 28 draw.

She is splitting the $1-million prize – therefore taking home $500,000 – with a second ticket that was purchased in Nanaimo, which matched the same set of winning numbers.

“I plan on spending the money wisely,” she said. “I have been told by my husband that I am frugal.”

Clark, a resident of Maple Ridge, was checking her ticket on her computer at home when she realized she had one of the four tickets that matched winning numbers during the draw.

“I was just flummoxed,” Clark said. “I saw the numbers and I thought: am I seeing right?”

Clark claimed her prize using BCLC’s temporary alternate prize-claim process, saying it was “awesome” to receive her win while staying safe at home.

She and her husband decided to buy a new Chevrolet Equinox with the prize, and Clark said she also has her eye on some new kitchen appliances.

So far this year, B.C. lottery players have claimed more than $56 million in winnings from Lotto Max, according to BCLC.

Lotto Max draws take place on Tuesdays and Fridays.
