A Burnaby man who went missing more than a week ago appears to have died in a hiking accident, according to police.

Burnaby RCMP reported Thursday that they were looking for Ryoji Fujita, who hadn’t been heard from since the previous Saturday.

Police said it was possible the 37-year-old had gone hiking at Hat Mountain in Lions Bay and that Lions Bay Search and Rescue was helping with the search.

On Monday, Burnaby RCMP announced Fujita had been found but that he had “succumbed to injuries caused by an accident while hiking.”

“There was no foul play in relation to his death,” stated a press release. “Burnaby RCMP would like to thank Lions Bay Search and Rescue for their assistance in locating the man.”
