Police are investigating the second alleged sexual assault atop Burnaby Mountain in less than two weeks. (You can read about the first incident here.)

Just after 5 a.m. Friday morning, Burnaby RCMP responded to a report of a sexual assault at UniverCity.

The female victim told police she had been out walking at about 4:30 a.m. when she was approached by a man at Highland Court and University Crescent.

The man approached her, assaulted her and then attempted to sexually assault her, the woman said.

He then left the area in an unknown direction, according to police.

“At this time there is nothing to suggest that this incident is connected to a previous assault that took place on a trail near SFU on July 14,” stated a Burnaby RCMP press release.

The suspect in this case is described as a black man in his late 20s, about six-feet tall, with a medium build and short, bushy, curly beard with a moustache.

He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, black sweat pants and a black baseball cap with a New York Yankees logo on it.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area of Highland Court, University Crescent or University High Street at 4:30 a.m., Friday morning to contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.

To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca.

Anyone who happened to be driving in the area at the time and might have dashcam footage is also asked to contact police.
