"The man is alleged to have tried to engage the girl in conversation about whether school was over for the summer," stated an RCMP press release.

He reportedly lunged at her but didn't make physical contact as she ran away from him, police said.

The man is described as a slender 30-something South Asian male standing about  six-foot-two. He was wearing a baseball cap, black hoodie, black sweatpants and a gold chain necklace.

He reportedly got out of a silver, older model four-door sedan with missing paint near the front licence plate.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about it to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604 646 9999.

While the incident appears to have been an isolated one and no other incidents have been reported involving the man, police are urging parents to have a talk with their kids about what to do when they're approach by a stanger who's acting suspiciously.

"Please advise your children not to engage with the stranger, to get to a safe place as soon as possible and to contact police immediately," stated the press release.
