Several more staff members at major grocery and drugstore chains operating in Metro Vancouver have tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Loblaw Companies Ltd, the parent company of retailers Shoppers Drug Mart provided an update to its COVID-19 employee case listings on Nov. 24. Additionally, the Loblaw-owned T&T Supermarket updated their own online COVID-19 store case tracker for test-positive cases.

The following stores are affected:

  • Shoppers Drug Mart, 7322 King George Blvd, Surrey: The last day the team member worked was on November 19.
  • T&T Supermarket, #2740-Barnet Hwy, Coquitlam: Three workers at the T&T Supermarket at Coquitlam Centre tested positive for the coronavirus over the last several days, leading to exposure notices posted on Nov. 20, 21 and 23, according to the grocer. The employees last worked Nov. 17, 13 and 19, respectively, according to the exposure notice. According to a notice on T&T’s website, the percentage of COVID-19 tests that come back positive among the store’s employees stands at 0.25%. For reference, Fraser Health’s percent positivity rate peaked at 9.7% last week, before dropping to 9.2% by Sunday.

Sobeys, Inc, the parent company of FreshCo, has indicated on its case tracker that a franchisee employee at a Metro Vancouver location of their Chalo FreshCo stores has received positive COVID-19 test results:

  • Chalo FreshCo, 7165 138 Street, Surrey: The last day the employee worked was November 13.

None of the store locations are considered public exposure sites by Fraser Health.

Sobeys and Loblaw Companies Ltd. are the two major grocery retailers operating in B.C. that publish employee COVID case information and store location details online.

Loblaw operates high-profile stores such as Real Canadian Superstore, City Market, and No Frills in B.C., while Sobeys, Inc. operates Safeway, Thrifty's, and FreshCo in the province.
