Burnaby RCMP seized nearly three kilograms of illegal marijuana after a traffic stop Saturday.

A 42-year-old man allegedly driving around in Burnaby with nearly three kilograms of illegal pot in his van probably regrets making a sketchy turn in front of a cop last weekend.

Burnaby Mounties were conducting patrols in the area of Delta Avenue and Lougheed Highway on Saturday, when they saw the man make an "unsafe and illegal turn," according to police.

An officer pulled the van over to speak to the driver about the traffic violation and caught a whiff of marijuana coming from inside, according to police.

A search of the vehicle revealed 12 large freezer bags stuffed with 2,831 grams (more than six pounds) of pot, according to Burnaby RCMP.

The driver was arrested and charged under the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act (CCLA).

“Any day we take illegal drugs off the streets of Burnaby is a good day,” RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in an emailed statement. “We never know when these types of interactions are going to occur, but when they do, our officers are ready to take the right steps to ensure the public is safe.”
