A Burnaby homeowner is thanking Burnaby RCMP after her dog Lucy was found a day after two men were caught on video coming onto her property and taking it.

Lucy is an 11-year-old Yorkshire terrier who escaped the backyard of the home at 6226 Berwick St. in Burnaby on Monday afternoon, said resident Esther Young.

Young supplied the NOW with the videos seen below that show two men coming onto the property and chasing the dog around the house.

Lucy had run down the street, where neighbours were trying to catch it. Two men pulled up in a black Jaguar and said the dog was theirs, said Young.

Lucy then runs back to the family home, where the two men continued the pursuit.

“It’s really quite shocking,” Young said. “I’m stunned that someone would do something like this.”

Two neighbours asked the men as they emerged from the yard, one carrying Lucy in his arms, and once again the men said the dog was theirs.

Young is hoping someone will find Lucy.

“She was used by an illegal breeder before we rescued her,” Young said. “They cut her vocal cords but they healed so she has a soft raspy bark. She’s missing most of her teeth and is microchipped. We love her dearly.”

Young contacted the NOW this afternoon to say that Lucy was found by someone and turned over to the Burnaby RCMP. Young had contacted the RCMP previously about the situation and they connected Lucy with the family.
