A new video shows some Burnaby pedestrians narrowly avoiding being hit by a driver earlier this week.

A reader submitted dash-cam footage (posted below *warning, foul language) taken at the corner of Antrim Avenue and Beresford Street in the Metrotown area on Thursday morning (March 5).

The driver who shot the video is seen slowing down and stopping at the posted stop sign.

As pedestrians cross both Beresford and Antrim, a black SUV suddenly appears on the left in the wrong lane, having gone around the driver with the dash cam.

The driver of the SUV doesn’t stop – instead, they speed through the stop sign and the intersection, despite another driver on Beresford already stopped as well.

“That almost took out two pedestrians while they have the right of the way to across the street,” said Wayne, who didn’t want his full name used. “Imagine those two pedestrians are much shorter and younger kids and decided to dash across the intersection instead.

“This is getting out of hand and long overdue if our current system isn't catching and banning those drivers.”
