How many years after the lake was dredged in 1973 did it last before silt and plants closed it again? We've been following the progress of the dredging (turtles, et al) down here because we liked coming up to row at Burnaby in the '70s, but I can't remember when we quit coming.

Also, they had a problem in Plovdiv, Bulgaria with aquatic plants and they solved it with the periodic introduction of sterile carp. The carp, because they are sterile and can't breed and create an invasive species problem, are an ideal 'green/ natural/sustainable' and cheap way to hold down the plant growth. These things eat more than their weight in plants daily, and die in about three years.
