This Burnaby mall has the city’s best dim sum…with more coming

When I moved back to my hometown of Burnaby, one of the first things I did was search for some good dim sum. I grew up with Sundays going out with the family for dim sum, but back then we always ended up at the Pink Pearl in Vancouver.

When I moved back to my hometown of Burnaby, one of the first things I did was search for some good dim sum.

I grew up with Sundays going out with the family for dim sum, but back then we always ended up at the Pink Pearl in Vancouver. I developed a life-long love of dim sum. It was exciting as a child and a teen to wait for the carts to roll by with all sorts of delectable little dishes in bamboo steamers.

I’ve had good and bad luck since coming back to Burnaby when it comes to enjoying a full array of dim sum dishes.

I believe I have actually found the best. A place that elevates dim sum with a level of creativity that frankly blew my mind.

And it’s in a mall food court. Yep, a mall food court.

Don’t laugh and don’t you dare scoff because you’ll miss out.

It’s Chef Tony Dim Sum, an offshoot of the award-winning Richmond restaurant, located in the Metropolis at Metrotown food court.

The best news is that Chef Tony will be opening in 2020 a full restaurant in a different part of the mall and keeping both locations open.

For now, drop by and see what you are missing.

Chef Tony takes the traditional siu mai dumpling and takes it to a different place with a hint of black truffle to go with the pork and shrimp. They were delicate and fresh and delicious.

Another showstopper are the salty egg yolk buns that are black with gold leafing.

I also adored the organic vegetable juice mushroom dumplings that tasted like there were filled with a risotto.

I really couldn’t believe I was eating food court food. It was so fresh and full of flavours i wasn't expecting.

I can’t wait until the full Chef Tony restaurant to open because his full menu looks incredible.

I will keep you updated on its progress.
