Will COVID-19 spoil plans to open a yummy pancake house in Burnaby?

I sure hope not.

Gram Café and Pancakes was announced to open at some point in 2020 at Burnaby’s Amazing Brentwood shopping centre.

But with COVID-19 wreaking havoc on businesses all over Metro Vancouver, it’s unclear if the company’s ambitious expansion plans will unfold the way it thought it would.

Right now, Gram’s website still has the Burnaby location listed, as well as three other possible sites in Vancouver. The company is operating in Richmond right now.

Take a look at Gram’s website and you’ll find some incredible creations that have their foundation in Osaka, Japan.

“Our popular Premium Pancake quickly became a huge hit with our customers,” reads a short history bio. “Now we are ready to launch in Canada. The brand concept of gram is to create stores that can give customers ‘joy’ and ‘emotion’ to bring a unique and enjoyable experience for our guests.”

The menu and photos show impossibly fluffy pancakes, with both sweet and savoury categories. I saw toppings ranging from fruit to chocolate to tea cream.

Gram also serves a variety of sandwiches and coffees, but I'm really buzzed about these pancakes. Japanese chefs have a different way of approaching food, as shown by Uncle Tetsu's light and fluffy cheesecakes.

Now imagine what they do with pancakes.

It all looks so amazing. Hopefully the Burnaby expansion pans out. It’s a tough time to open a business.
