This is Burnaby’s best tandoori chicken. Spicy nirvana

It’s not always true that the type of food listed in a restaurant’s title is that eatery’s best dish - although doing so really ramps up expectations. If you can’t nail the dish that’s in your title, then you’re in big trouble.

If you can’t nail the dish that’s in your title, then you’re in big trouble.

You don’t, however, have to worry about having tandoori chicken at Agra Tandoori Restaurant on Canada Way near Boundary in Burnaby.

Yeah, you could say they nail it.

It’s not easy to spot Agra because it’s located in an innocuous strip mall next to a 7-11. The location doesn’t scream gourmet, but the food does all the talking.

Tandoori chicken is a dish prepared by roasting meat on skewers at high temperatures that’s been marinated in an orgasmic combination of yogurt and spices in a tandoor – a type of clay oven. The appearance looks pretty red depending on who prepares it, so it can seem a little scary if you fear lava-hot food.

Agra lets you decide on the spice level and I went for a medium blend because I’m getting more adventurous.

I could literally eat an entire bucket of Agra’s tandoori chicken. The meat falls off the bone and is loaded with flavour. It’s not greasy or heavy at all.

If you are not feeling into chicken, you can also get tandoori prawns or fish, served with a chutney.

What I like best is when I hit up Agra for their mid-week all-you-can-eat buffet, which includes the tandoori chicken, as well as goat curry, butter chicken, rice, salads, bread and more. It’s a ridiculous array of food for about $13.

The only problem is going back to work and feeling like you need a nap because all of that delicious food.
