Burnaby residents need to clear their bloody sidewalks

Look, snow is tough to deal with in Burnaby because we’re not really used to it. I get it. But more effort needs to be put in to ensure people stay safe. For example: sidewalks.

Look, snow is tough to deal with in Burnaby because we’re not really used to it.

I get it.

But more effort needs to be put in to ensure people stay safe.

For example: sidewalks.

You shouldn’t leave clearing the sidewalks to the City of Burnaby because, as far as I know, it’s up to homeowners to shovel them.

So grab a shovel and clear them. It’s really important now that the snow has stopped to ensure pedestrians have a safe place to walk.

NOW reader Carrie McLaren tweeted out this morning (@cwalkker) about a stretch of Lougheed Highway near Lougheed Town Centre that hadn’t been touched by anyone (see the photo attached). She had to walk on the shoulder.

I don’t know whose jurisdiction that particular sidewalk is, but hey, why not help out your neighbours and just go and do it.

I volunteered to shovel at my mom’s housing complex and it nearly killed me because I’m out of shape, but it made me feel good inside.

“Kudos for all who shovelled their walks/streets & helped neighbours who couldn’t,” tweet McLaren.
