RIP flame-grilled chicken in South Burnaby.

The economic devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic continues as Nando’s Canada has announced it will close multiple restaurants across Canada, including the outlet at Big Bend Crossing in South Burnaby.

Nando’s Canada announced it has seen a sharp decline in business during the health crisis and is permanently closing 21 of its restaurants.

There are two Nando’s restaurants on Kingsway, however, that will remain open.

“Like virtually all restaurants across the nation, Nando’s Canada has experienced a sharp decline in sales during the COVID-19 crisis,” said a statement. “Lockdowns have been extended across all provinces and the Canadian restaurant sector is now facing the long-term consequences of this unprecedented event.”

It's yet another blow for the restaurant industry.

The closures were announced on the same day that WorkSafeBC released guidelines on how restaurants can reopen for sit-down dining.

The B.C. government has set a mid-May timeline for restaurants to reopen for sit-down dining.
