Burnaby scofflaws too distracted to notice cops watching them

As part of my continuing series on terrible drivers, I taking a look at distracted driving. This takes many forms, from talking on your phone to trying to put on makeup to trying to juggle coffee and bagel while switching lanes.
Distracted driving
Cell phone addiction is behind some driver’s inability to stay away from the device while behind the wheel.

As part of my continuing series on terrible drivers, I taking a look at distracted driving.

This takes many forms, from talking on your phone to trying to put on makeup to trying to juggle coffee and bagel while switching lanes.

Multitasking is a great asset in the office, not behind the wheel.

A group of drivers found this out the hard way on Saturday when Burnaby RCMP staged a five-hour blitz.

Officers staked out the intersection of Grandview Highway and Boundary Road, where people come off the freeway heading west or get on it heading east.

It’s a high-traffic area full of distracted drivers.

In just a few hours, Burnaby RCMP handed out 44 tickets – the vast majority for distracted driving. Each tickets is $368.

“EyesFWDBC” was the hashtag issued by the police.

At the end of January, a total of 40 tickets were issued during an enforcement blitz by Burnaby RCMP with an assist from Transit Police.

Out of those 40 tickets, 15 were for distracted driving, according to Burnaby RCMP.

It’s not actually that hard to spot police when they are doing road checks, but if you’re looking at your phone you’ll never see them coming.
