I'm being arrested for 'fake news' and I need Burnaby residents to 'bail' me out

I’m going to be arrested soon. It’s nice that I know about it ahead of time. That gives me time to prepare. The crime is “fake news” and the Burnaby RCMP will clamp on the bracelets on May 3 at my office.

I’m going to be arrested soon. It’s nice that I know about it ahead of time. That gives me time to prepare.

The crime is “fake news” and the Burnaby RCMP will clamp on the bracelets on May 3 at my office. Officers will then take me to Metrotown mall and put me on display like the disgrace I am and children will throw stones.

OK, perhaps that last part isn’t true. That’s what happens with fake news.

The real truth is that I am raising money for the Cops for Cancer campaign by taking part in the Jail and Bail event. I will be playfully “arrested” and taken to the mall.

Leading up to that point, I will be raising money – as much as humanly possible.

Which is where you come in. I’m asking you to support Cops for Cancer by pledging to my account for the event. Any amount will help.

Just click on this sentence and you’ll be whisked away to my pledge page, where you can make a donation.

It’s that easy.

Not only can you donate, but you’ll get to see one of the only photos of myself that I actually like.

So there’s that.

Frankly, I’ve never done anything like this before. I’ve raised money by shaving my head and volunteering to be in a dunk tank, but I’ve never had my own fundraising page before and the electronic tools to reach so many people.

I’m nervous. Not about being arrested, but about not raising much money. I want to do well because it’s such a great cause, but who knows?

I’ll be writing a series of blog posts about the campaign the coming weeks so keep a watch for them.

Most importantly, donate some cash. Do it now. Don’t wait. It really is an amazing cause.
