North Burnaby traffic is a gong show this morning

A series of accidents and the FortisBC project have combined for a traffic nightmare in North Burnaby this morning.

Traffic through several North Burnaby side streets are a mess as drivers try to avoid Highway 1 westbound – which is also a mess.

Hastings Street through North Burnaby is also a mess thanks to an accident near Beta.

Other accidents occurred on Highway 1 at Gaglardi Way and at Kensington. A third crash happened heading westbound at McGill Street that is backing up traffic.

Normally drivers would just take Lougheed Highway – which was a mess as of 9:30 a.m. – but many drivers are avoiding that due to the FortisBC construction.

The option of taking Broadway instead of Lougheed is also gone as that road is closed due to the FortisBC project.

That left drivers taking Arden around Burnaby Mountain Golf Course and then onto Halifax Street, a narrow street that has been backed up all morning all the way down to Lougheed Highway.

So it’s a big, giant, stinky mess this morning.

Maybe take SkyTrain if you haven’t left for work yet.
