Oh my, somebody drove impaired in Burnaby at 10 in the morning

I understand that Good Friday is a day off for most people – with deep, emotional meaning for Christians.

For non-believers, it’s simply a kick off to a long weekend – a time to party. But that’s no excuse for what one driver did this past Good Friday in Burnaby.

Burnaby RCMP tweeted about a four-vehicle crash that included a motorcycle on Good Friday at Imperial Street and McKay Avenue at 10:08 a.m.

Police suspect impaired driving as the chief cause of the crash. Yes, somebody was impaired at 10 in the morning.

I’m not suggesting that driving impaired at 10 p.m. is any better than doing the same thing in the morning – it’s just weirder to be hammered or high that early in the morning.

Or am I just being naïve?

I don’t care what people do in the privacy of their own homes. But once you get behind the wheel, it becomes everybody’s problem so maybe, just maybe, grow up a little – or a lot – and stay home or take a cab or walk. Whatever you have to do to not cause four-vehicle crashes, do it.

Fortunately, all the injuries are considered non-life threatening, say police, who are now looking for witnesses and dashcam footage of the incident.
