Opinion: 3 soused scumbags in Burnaby get their rides impounded

I’m pretty unforgiving when it comes to impaired driving. I grew up in an era in which many parents got liquored up at parties and then drove home with their kids in the vehicle. “Oh, we didn’t know any better,” they say now. Baloney.

I’m pretty unforgiving when it comes to impaired driving.

I grew up in an era in which many parents got liquored up at parties and then drove home with their kids in the vehicle.

“Oh, we didn’t know any better,” they say now.

Baloney.

They knew better, they just didn’t care.

Some drivers still don’t care because they keep doing it. I have lost friendships over this issue.

That’s why I took such great satisfaction in seeing multiple impaired drivers taken off of the roads today in Burnaby.

“The Burnaby RCMP Traffic Unit was out early this morning conducting a sobriety roadblock, catching 3 drivers driving while impaired by alcohol, each receiving a driving prohibition and their vehicles impounded,” said Burnaby RCMP in a tweet.

RCMP supplied ICBC stats that said 56 per cent of impaired driving happens between Friday and Sunday, and 38 per cent of impaired driving happens between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m.

I only wish more efforts would be made to setting up roadblocks during high-probability times so we can catch more bad people doing bad things. I also wish we could pass a law requiring people convicted of impaired driving to have to watch their vehicles being set on fire.

Yeah, that's pretty harsh, but too many people are dying on our roads.
