Opinion: Burnaby drivers didn’t learn a damn thing from the last snowfall

Well, it’s snowing again in Burnaby, but it’s not quite the snowpocalypse that it was in January. This version has lots of snow coming down, especially in North Burnaby, but it’s not sticking the same way. It’s a wet, slushy mess.

Well, it’s snowing again in Burnaby, but it’s not quite the snowpocalypse that it was in January.

This version has lots of snow coming down, especially in North Burnaby, but it’s not sticking the same way. It’s a wet, slushy mess.

But it’s still dangerous. And people in Burnaby are still driving like idiots in the snow.

I had to drive because I had an interview in the field and it was pretty infuriating, especially when it came to dudes in pickup trucks driving far too fast for the slushy conditions.

I don’t care how good your tires are, you have to slow down in this mess because you can’t guarantee your vehicle will stop in time if your speed is too fast.

Watch the video attached to this blog. It was taken by reader John Preissl and shows a Jeep having to back up all the way down a slope on Sperling Avenue in South Burnaby. That’s because underneath the slush is a layer of ice that is making driving difficult.

I saw several drivers have the tail of their vehicles slide while turning corners because they are going too fast.

Thankfully, these drivers didn’t slam into any other vehicles or pedestrians.

It’s all so frustrating watching people driving like this when we just went through the same thing recently. I actually had two drivers honk at me because they felt I was driving too slow for their liking.

Well, too bad. It’s a mess and so I’m going to dawdle and you’ll just have to suck it up.

Spring can’t come soon enough.
