In case you didn’t know it, CPAC is more than just a place to watch a live feed of the House of Commons debates.
The Canadian Public Affairs Channels also produces some interesting content on Canadian government and politics.
A great example is CPAC reporter Catherine Pope’s excellent 26-minute mini-doc on the federal election riding of Burnaby North-Seymour. Click here to watch the video.
It’s a nice package that is perfect for any voter looking to hear more from the candidates in this riding.
Well, unless you want to hear from Conservative candidate Heather Leung. Despite the fact that CPAC is a pretty neutral site, Leung did not participate in this video piece.
In fact, according to Pope, she wasn’t even able to get a response about taking part in an interview. This is basically free publicity.
You have to wonder what it is that Leung is hiding? Yeah, some Conservatives have messaged me and said that it’s because she’s been “unfairly” treated by media (not true) that she isn’t doing interviews. But Leung hasn’t even returned calls about taking part in all-candidates’ meetings.
That has nothing to do with the media. ACM’s are a chance to get up on stage and speak directly to voters – something Leung did at least once during the 2018 Burnaby civic election when she appeared at an event at Crystal Mall.
So she has done it before, but now has gone into the political witness protection program.
This is an insult to democracy. Hopefully even Conservative voters will take this into account on election day.
