The federal election campaign is less than a week old and Jagmeet Singh is already earning some rave reviews.

The Burnaby South MP and federal NDP leader has gotten off to a strong start communicating his main message – that his party will do things for average folks while other parties will help the so-called “elite.”

It’s a common class theme for the NDP. We’ll see in the coming days how much support shows up in the polls. The NDP has been mired in third place for a long time, but that could quickly change with the campaign underway.

And, so far, Singh is getting much praise.

Well-known political pundit Chantal Hebert tweeted this: “Things you maybe did not know before this week: @theJagmeetSingh is a fearless campaigner.”

She was commenting about a playful video of Singh taking off his jacket and wielding a hammer at Poutine Fest in Saint-Hyacinthe, Que.

He rings the bell with ease. We’ll see if he can ring the same bell on election day, but so far, he’s flexing his campaign muscles.

*For Burnaby South voters, an all-candidates' meeting has been announced for Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the hall at 5024 Rumble St. No candidates are listed so it's unclear who will be attending. I've reached out to the NDP to see if Singh has confirmed, although since he's a national leader on a campaign, it is hard for them to attending these kinds of events due to pre-arranged travel schedules. See the event invite here.
