It’s no fun having to shovel out your vehicle after a winter snowstorm.
I know – I had to do it this morning (Monday). I’m not in the best physical shape, but it had to be done. And when I say “done,” I mean completely done.
You can’t just clear off a portion of your vehicle, like half of the windshield and your driver’s side window.
Burnaby RCMP and other policing agencies say it’s actually an offence to not have all of your windows cleared of snow. That also includes your headlights and brake lights.
I have included a handy photo illustration of how not to drive your vehicle. Don’t laugh – people actually do this on Metro Vancouver roads every time it snows. I saw one person this morning who had most of their windows still caked with snow.
Good luck doing a shoulder check.
They don’t want to put in the extra effort, but that just creates dangerous conditions. You should also clear off your engine hood of snow because when you’re driving, the snow blows off and blocks your visibility.
So, take a few extra minutes and do your entire vehicle.
It will make driving safer for you and everyone else on the road, plus pedestrians and cyclists.
