Opinion: Reckless maniac thinks Burnaby street is Highway 1. They got towed

COVID-19 means Burnaby roads are much quieter these days.

Which means reckless racers are trying to take advantage. Thankfully, Burnaby RCMP are stepping up their traffic enforcement game.

This week, police caught a driver treating Willingdon Avenue like it was the Trans Canada Highway.

The driver was going – get this – 113 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. That, of course is way over twice the speed limit. That will end up with a whopping big ticket ($368 or $483) and, as you can see from the photo, getting your vehicle towed for a week.

I think ICBC should just no longer insure this person for a year. This is one way that I’m sure would teach this maniac a lesson.

Do people think speed limits are suddenly no longer in place because of a health emergency?

Judging by the photo, the person was nailed in front of Moscrop Secondary. Sure, the school is closed, but would this driver still race like this even if the school was open? I’m sure they would.

Whenever I posted these blogs, I always get at least one guy - it's always guys - who will email back complaining that speed limits are too low and that somehow forces people to drive fast. Well, even if the speed limit was 60, 70 or 80, 113 km/h is still outrageous so go away with that argument.

Please, slow the f%$* down.
